2020 Doing Democracy Day XI
Tuesday March 17th - High School
Wednesday March 18th - Middle School
St. Vrain Innovation Center
Doing Democracy Day (DDD) is a multi-community, multi-school event devoted to students wrestling with local issues, using local leaders (like you) as live resources. DDD has been a great success due to the participation local leaders and public servants. We hope you can join us for one or both days this year.
Most leaders are needed between 9:30-11:30am each day. Others are needed as judges from 12:30 - 3pm. Local leaders, educators and public servants from all St. Vrain Communities and St. Vrain secondary schools are invited to share their expertise as walking resources for students (no advanced preparation is necessary). Students from all district high schools and middle schools will be participating in a day of grappling with local government issues.
We know you are busy, we we have focused the time for local leader participation:
8-9:30am - Students arrive, welcome, keynote and begin team issue research
*9:30-11:30am - Leader Interviews - We need your help the most in the morning session to serve as live resources as our students investigate local issues.
11:30-12:00pm - Lunch - Feel free to have lunch with the students on us.
12:00 - 12:45 - Teams finish presentations
*12:45-3:00pm - Semi-Finals & Finals - Several leaders are needed to serve as American Idol style judges in the afternoon for the presentations.
DDD is substantially funded by Don Haddad's Superintendent's Office. Original funding was provided by an CU Boulder Outreach Grant written by Professor Ken Bickers of CU's Political Science Department.
Issues this year include: Vaping, Homelessness, Plastic Bag Bans, Screen Addiction, Student Social Emotional Health, Expanding Awareness of Post Secondary Options. Please contact me if you have an issue you would like to see students explore.
