LWV support of direct election of the U.S. president is longstanding. The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact would allow the voters' choice to prevail, but without eliminating the Electoral College. The Colorado Legislature has approved Colorado's participation in NPV; the bill awaits the governor's signature. Non-partisan in its concept, NPV has recently become very partisan in Colorado.
