Louisville Live: An Experiment in Community. LWVBC, in collaboration with the Louisville Library, will present a community discussion on Freedom of the Press. Purpose: learning to communicate across political, cultural, and other differences. In a setting intended to evoke the sense of being in a community living room, expert panelists will identify some crucial issues and facilitate discussions.
Panelists confirmed to date:
· Elizabeth A. Skewes covered state and local politics during her years as a practicing journalist. She’s now associate professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder College of Media, Communication, and Information. Her research focuses on media sociology and news practices, the media’s role in electoral politics, and politics in popular culture. She teaches media ethics, among other courses.
· Don Beezley served as a Republican member of the Colorado House of Representatives from 2011 to 2013. An active entrepreneur, he brokers mergers and acquisitions, and offers business services, including franchises, through several business entities he leads. He was previously Vice President of Development for the Cato Institute, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank committed to principles of individual liberty.
· Attorney Steven D. Zansberg has repeatedly earned designation as Denver First Amendment Litigation Lawyer of the Year from The Best Lawyers in America, which bases its ratings on peer reviews. A partner in Ballard Spahr LLP, he is an active member of the national media bar and has represented media companies, online publishers and individuals in First Amendment matters.
A member of the League of Women of Boulder County will moderate. The League is a nonpartisan grassroots political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government.
