Focus of the Immigration Committee
We have been following legislative proposals related to immigration and have examined some common misperceptions/myths about immigration. We have also considered a range of guiding principles and/or detailed specific actions for reforming the U.S. immigration system that have been suggested by individuals and organizations outside the League.

League's Position on Immigration:
- Summary Statement: Promote reunification of immediate families; meet the economic, business and employment needs of the United States; be responsive to those facing political persecution or humanitarian crises; and provide for student visas. Ensure fair treatment under the law for all persons. In transition to a reformed system, support provisions for unauthorized immigrants already in the country to earn legal status.
- Full Statement (arrived at through a process of member study and consensus and formally announced in April of 2008)
Flowchart: see just what it takes and how long it takes for a foreigner to obtain a green card, lawful permanent residency, or citizenship (from the October 2008 issue of Reason magazine)
Resources: gain a better understanding of the complex immigration issue as it relates to our communities (from the national League)
